June 27th, 2010DollareBay What a Strange Name for a Billion Dollar Corporation
Every day millions of eBay users log onto their accounts to buy and sell, and dont have any idea how eBay got its name. They might not really care, either. Like the person who turns on the TV and just wants it to come on and play their favorite television show, many eBay users probably arent curious about the fine points of the company. But its a fun story and all true eBay enthusiasts will be interested in knowing the history.
Just ask some friends what “eBay” stands for and youre probably going to get an answer like “its maybe an abbreviation for electronics bay or ecommerce bay or something like that”. But while the “e” could stand for lots of things, if you look up different definitions for “bay” theres just no way to stretch any of them so they have anything to do with an online auction site. However if we search way back to 1995, the year eBay was founded, we can find some clues.
An explanation youll probably see on the Internet, and even in some books about eBay, says that the auction site was created by a young computer programmer named Pierre Omidyar to help his girlfriend, Pam, increase the size of her collection of PEZ candy dispensers. PEZ, if you are not familiar with them, are little plastic containers with character heads that flip back and push out a piece of candy. Pam supposedly wanted a way to enlarge her collection, so Pierre came up with an idea for an online marketplace. Since he was a computer programmer, he put together the code which would become the core for eBay.
Just goes to show you cant always trust what you read on the Internet. According to Adam Cohen in his 2002 book, “The Perfect Store: Inside eBay” thats not really the way it happened. The PEZ story, which is widely circulated and believed, was created by a public relations manager to further the myth surrounding the company and has been spread widely ever since.
The real story is that Omidyar was simply a smart man, and he wanted to make an impact with an online venture. He observed the operation of buyers and sellers in other markets and decided that an auction website would be a great service to offer. Ironically, he had never attended a real auction himself. The whole thing started out as a hobby, but the auction site soon was earning enough money so that Omidyar could quit his job and work it full-time. As a computer programmer he did write the original computer code which made the auction site function – in one weekend.
The website launched on Labor Day, 1995 and he called it “Auction Web”. Pretty descriptive, right? Well, Omidyar had earlier founded a web consulting company which he called Echo Bay Technology Group. “Echo Bay” because he just liked the sound of it. There was already a gold mining company who owned EchoBay.com, so Omidyr took the second best option and dropped the “cho” part of “echo” and named his business – you guessed it – eBay. If you go to www.echobay.com today, youll see only one simple dark blue webpage with the words, “EchoBay – What eBay could have been!”.
The original website operated as “Auction Web” for 2 years, then officially became eBay.com in 1997.
So there you have it. Maybe that will give you an answer for a “Trivial Pursuit” question, or maybe you can work it into a conversation and impress your friends sometime. Just know that when you buy or sell on eBay, youll be one of the few to know the real story of how eBay got its name.

June 25th, 2010DollarHow To Start An Ebay Drop-Shipping Business With Zero Dollars Out Of Pocket
Is it possible to start a successful Ebay drop-shipping business for zero out of pocket? Yes, it is! The problem is that there are hundreds of supposed drop-shippers online and many so called “instant auction success kits” and all but two are useless. There are only two Ebay approved drop-shippers and joining either one is the first step to creating an Ebay work at home business drop-shipping business.
For those who are unfamiliar with drop-shipping it works like this:
You locate products to sell from a database of over 250,000 products.
You can use tools through your drop-shipper that allow you to select products, set pricing and automatically send them to eBay.
Your item sells on eBay and you receive payment through Paypal.
You purchase the product from the drop-shipper using your Paypal funds. You pay the wholesale price and keep the profit.
The drop-shipper will process and ship it to your customer. They will handle any returns, exchanges or problems or instruct you how to resolve the issue through the manufacturer when warranties apply.
You will have tracking information on every order.
You can expect to spend at least a good week getting your business set up. The good news is that you will probably already have made a profit by day 5, and once you have set up all your products the business will pretty much run itself without a whole lot more effort on your part, but I am getting ahead of things. Let’s start from square one, shall we?
To start your business you are going to need:
A Paypal account
An eBay account
A drop-shipper accountAs we already said, there are many supposed drop-shippers out there that are nothing but a scam.
There are only two Ebay approved drop-shippers and only one drop-shipper is fully integrated with Ebay. Follow the links at the end of this article to explore them both and decide which is right for you. Both charge membership fees but the fee structures differ greatly.
If you choose to go with a free trial drop-shipping account then by the time you need to pay membership dues you will have easily earned more than enough money to cover your monthly dues.
Remember I told you it would cost $0 out of pocket? Here’s how:
Sign up for the free 7 day trial
Make a real effort to get things started
Call customer service or contact live chat on the fourth or fifth day of your trial. Let them know how hard you have been working and that you very much would like to extend your trial period so your auctions have time to run their coarse, you can get a better feel for the system, etc…. I was able to get my trial period extended to a full month by taking this approach. Take the time to ask them any and every question you have since you are on the phone anyway! The customer service reps are amazing and it is well worth taking advantage of their expertise.
Work your butt off during the trial period and you will easily earn the few bucks your membership will cost you and more. Then you can pay your membership with your earning and thus have a $0 start up. In fact in my first two weeks I earned enough to pay for a one year membership at a huge discount which leads me to step 5….
When you have convinced yourself how wonderful your new business is and you are ready to pay your membership dues DON’T!!! Don’t do a thing until you call the customer service department back and ask to speak with someone in the promotions department. They will be offer you HUGE discounts on your membership and they will usually throw in free tools as well.
Before you go any further you need to take some time getting familiar with Ebay, Paypal and your drop-shipper. Explore each site carefully. Read about Ebay’s fees (you will not have to pay any fees up front to use Ebay but you will need to understand the fee structure to price your items properly). Get extremely comfortable with the tools and products offered by your drop-shipper. If you run into any questions or problems along the way contact the customer support for the site you have issues with and they will be glad to assist you. It will be much easier for you to follow the rest of this guide if you have a basic understanding of your new accounts first.
Now that you have a feel for the tools you will be using there are five more areas we need to cover in detail to make sure you are off to a solid start. My free detailed start up guide looks at:
Product Selection-You have instant access to over 250,000 products to pick from. Find out how to determine which products to sell.
Product Pricing-How to set prices that will earn you the best conversions.
Traffic-There are over 60 million Ebayers out there. Learn how to drive them to your listings.
Things to Avoid-Find out the most common mistakes newbies make.

Tags: Adsense, Conclusion, E Mail, Easy Money, Ebay, Ebay Stores, Fraudsters, Google, Guarantees, Insane People, Liars, Long Time, Lots Of Money, Mail Support, Money Back, Quality Content, Refund Policies, Scams, Traffic Websites, Working From Home
Read this article before you consider paying for a “get rich quick” program.
From: Make Hundreds Of Dollars
Everybody would love to make lots of money quickly, working from home, and only doing a few hours of work per week. I’ve spent the past two years trying to find a great way of doing this. Only over the course of the past few months have I found any “get rich quick” programs worth buying. I’ve been trying to make money online for a long time. I had a few small websites, but they never made much more than a few hundred per month. It was easy money and didn’t require much work on my part, but I knew there were people out there doing better than I was and I knew I could do as well as them.
Now, I’ve seen a lot of “get rich quick” programs. Most of these people make claims about earning $2000/day with Google or something similarly insane. Almost all of these people are complete liars. Even if they were making $2000/day with Google AdSense, it’d be because they had high- traffic websites with a lot of quality content. I’d know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I’d make daily with their programs. Maybe you’ve already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered.
I decided I’d look through the all of the “get rich quick” programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate. I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section.
In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless. The owners knew it, but they couldn’t care less about their customers since they didn’t offer refund policies! Amazingly, while looking through all of the programs, I actually did find a few legitimate programs. They were run by ordinary people like you and me, and they had found some great methods of making money from their home by doing very little work.
I spent some time working with those programs, and my income is now ten times what it used to be. These programs provided a large amount of great information on how to make extra money on your computer doing very little work. Numerous customers had provided great feedback and reviews for their products. Many of them have started to make money just days after buying!
Their programs have excellent prices, and the authors have a group of paid staff who are dedicating to helping you or providing assistance if you need any. I must say I was amazed! If you do decide to purchase any of the programs listed below, I recommend you join quickly. Most of the owners tell me they are getting an overwhelming number of sales and plan on raising prices in the near future, so order while prices are still low!
To Your Online Success,

May 7th, 2010DollarHow to buy brand name gadgets for bargains on the dollar
Don’t you love gadgets, especially the new finagled ones. If you are like me and you strive to take ownership of the latest and greatest, then this article is for you – because I will save you a bunch of money which can then be safely applied to … even more gadgets. From satellite receivers to universal remotes, there is a constant barrage of new releases. Now any self respecting gadget addict will understand that yesterdays gizmo’s is destined for the trash heap as soon as release 3.0 hits the streets.
Of course for the savvy shopper release 2.0 offers unique buying opportunities. Purchasing the one generation before often yields even more fun and stimulation. Since bugs have been removed, geeky hacks have been introduced and generally you can have more fun and be rather more ruthless with the little device.
Now a market exists for both state of the generation and one, two and even three back versions. Its eBay of course that I am referring too. With a large volume of most electronics being traded everyday, this is the ideal near efficient market. One can study the dynamics of this micro-market and determine some useful buying rules. With a little more information than the rest of the marketplace, one can almost certainly make some intelligent buying opportunities. This article focuses on how to identify these gaps and often purchase many electronic gadgets for 20-100% below retail.
This article should be read together with my longer piece and a web site, which produces the information required to identify buying nuggets. Find the links and URLs to these two sites at the bottom of this article. There exists a little web site that polls data from eBay throughout the day. Now what makes this different you may ask? Well firstly it only focuses on well know in demand electronic gadgets. On the left panel you will find categories for things like Wide screen Notebooks, Digital Cameras, Simple Surround Sound, XBOX 360, Apple iPOod Tunes Video, HDTV, ESPN Phone, etc. etc.
There is one more aspect that makes this site useful. That is it holds information that is often more difficult for the buyer to obtain. With this information in hand buyers can often make more informed and better decisions and therefore avoid bidding wars and outsmart other bidders to a high degree.
Most information on eBay focuses on the selling element, i.e. how to sell your clubs. I have tended to specialize on the buying end and trying to identify market opportunities and price in-efficiencies to really capture excellent deals. To do this we need to understand the dynamics of the eBay market place. Like any other market it is supply demand driven, and like a large flee-market if a buyer has knowledge of how many items are for sale at what prices and how many other buyers are in the market, then that buyer can capture the upper hand. Lets focus a little more on supply.
The eBay supply dynamic is a little different in that supply of an item must be seen at a point in time. In other words, because auctions end at different times, one needs to grasp the number of auctions ending in close proximity for the same item. This gives you a feel for the supply of items or in our case cameras. What makes this interesting is that today there could be a large amount of auctions ending for a particular model, but next week there could be very few. This is one element driving the price.
The demand side is slightly more complex and hidden from the average eBay buyer. This is where that the web site I refer to at below has some useful data. Demand in eBay terms is measured (by sellers) as a number of factors – how many people view my auction, how many people ask questions, how many people place me on their watch page, and how many people actually bid. Obviously as we progress down this list the data become more reliable as an indication of demand. Page views are not easy to obtain, although some sellers place a publicly viewable counter on their auction pages. Questions and watchers are available to sellers, and the special web site mentioned below will expose this information. Number of bids is available for all to see.
Now if we happened to produce a graph as the auction progresses of the changes in the number of questions, watchers and bids one can easily see how the demand is changing as time progresses. Typically if questions are high and watchers are high, but bids are low, this may indicate some confusion (for example a spelling mistake in a model number) and a possible buy opportunity. If watchers are very high and climbing, but bids are low, this can point to a last minute bidding war, and a stay out indicator.
Armed with this information and also a quick summary of other similar auctions ending soon, plus a quick feel for the skill set of the seller and the current highest bidder, one can see a picture very different from the average eBay buyer. Soon the trained eye will observe some nice buying opportunities.
Electronics gadget nut cases like me, relish the opportunity to get a one up on our fellow buyers. Look carefully at the data presented, after a little practice opportunities will leap out at you. The premise is simple, a buyer with more market information will always pay lower prices than the rest of the market. In stock market terms it caller insider trading, and its illegal. In our case its quite above board and simply assists you in better understanding the supply demand curve for that yummy flat panel TV you had you eye on last Christmas.

November 21st, 2009Great TipsFinding products to sell is fundamental to those who have Internet stores, auction sites, or sell through stores such as Amazon or Ebay. However, it may be difficult to determine where you will find those products to sell.
There are a number of different ways to find products to sell as well as many scam artists who like nothing more than to prey upon unsuspecting but well-meaning storeowners. Whether selling online or in your hometown, you need to check out every wholesale company or drop shipper with the Better Business Bureau and Rip Off Report to make sure you are only dealing with reputable companies.
Drop shippers are invaluable to those who sell products over the Internet. Drop shippers are companies that store product inventory and then mail them to your customers, without you needing to first purchase and store the products. To make sure that the drop shipping company you are dealing with is legitimate, sends products on time, and hasnt been accused of unscrupulous tactics, double check their record with the BBB. Many times, dropshipping companies will charge a yearly fee before allowing you access to their products. You can find dropshipping companies that wont charge you this fee, but you must be diligent in your search. Also, you should never have to pay for a list of drop shipping or wholesale companies. You can find them on your own and not pay anyone a dime.
One way to find dropshipping and wholesale companies is to check in your local area. Having contact with a company that you can talk to in person can bring great peace to your online business. Look in your local yellow pages for various wholesale companies and contact them about their dropshipping practices. You can also purchase items from them at wholesale costs and ship them yourself, bypassing the need for a dropshipper completely. However, if you feel that your company is best served by a dropshipper, then you should find a reputable company that distributes the products you are interested in selling and then inquire about a dropshipping program.
