Google requires website owners to conform to a number of rules, including:

All pages must have at least one link that leads to it, without concealing pages.

All links must be active and work.

Tags, especially the title and alt tags should be explanatory and distinct.

When designing your site, create one that is helpful to a user; dont design a page for search engines. Make sure you clearly define what your site is about.

Google forbids hidden text. Dont colorize the text as the same color as your background, or even size the text so small it cant be read. Google has been known to ban publishers who engage in these so called black hat techniques.

Google strongly recommends that you include a site map page.
They also strongly recommend you include a robots.txt file in your root directory. The robots.txt file tells website crawlers, like those that will match the ads with your website, which pages not to crawl. This is especially important if you want ads for some but not all of your content or if you have password protected pages.

Following the website design rules doesnt make you bullet-proof, though. Even if you follow all of them, you may still be at risk of losing your AdSense account permanently or even temporarily.

If you are indeed banned by Google to display AdSense advertisements on your page, you can file a re-inclusion request. Although not very successful many times, it still gives a publisher a chance to get back into the program.

Heres what youll need to include in your re-inclusion request:

Your account name

Your contact information

A list of changes youve made to fix any violations

A guarantee it wont happen again

Reports and evidence of click bombing, if you have any (more on this below)

You should NOT include any threats to pull your business. Visit http://www.google.com/support/bin/request.py to contact customer support. Keep your email straightforward. The subject of your email should be Re-inclusion Request to make sure it gets to the right desk.

Click Bombing

Click bombing is when someone clicks on one or more of the ads that appear on your webpage repeatedly.

While this seems like a great way to increase your profits, it is against Googles policy and they are always searching for click bombers. While you cant prevent malicious click bomb attacks, you can take steps to defend yourself should you be accused of it.

Consider investing in a third party tracking software program that is approved by Google. Look for one that tracks IP addresses.

Run reports often, and keep them stored separately from your Google account. Should you be removed from the AdSense program, you wont necessarily have access to run reports.
If or when you are removed or fined by Google for AdSense abuse, make sure you send copies of your IP address reports along with your re-inclusion request.

As mentioned before, even if you follow all the rules of appeal and properly request a re-inclusion, you are not guaranteed a reversal. It seems most requests to be reinstated are not acted upon by Google.

Googles policy has been always one of protecting the advertiser by any means necessary. Unfortunately, this may mean kicking a legitimate publisher out of the program needlessly if theyve been targeted by a malicious person.

Earnings Calculations

So how much money can be made in the AdSense program? Publishers can earn A LOT. From 10 cents a day, to over one hundred thousand dollars a day. Of course this is all dependant on how much traffic your website gets as well as how well you integrate the advertisements. But how does Google calculate per click how much that you, the publisher, gets paid? This is the fuzziest of all gray areas in the AdSense program. Google admittedly doesnt disclose revenue share or whether the ads appearing on your site are cost-per-impression or cost-per-click. What they do tell you is how many page impressions (ads shown), number of clicks on the ads, page click through rate (CTR) and your earnings. Increase your impressions, number of clicks or CTR, and your earnings will follow.

Alternatives

If youve been removed from AdSense or are just looking for another option, there are a few to choose from:

Yahoo! Publisher Network is very similar to AdSense. Experienced webmasters who have used both Google and Yahoo! programs believe Yahoo! is second best, but still a very good, profitable program. As it becomes more popular, more advertisers will jump on board with Yahoo thus creating a PPC race with Google.

Chitika A pay per click advertising stream. They dont have as many or such a variety as AdSense or Yahoo!, but are usually less expensive to advertise on.

AdBrite is very similar to Chitika, though slightly smaller.

You can make more money with AdSense by learning and using the principles I am about to present. If you aren’t satisfied with the results you are getting from AdSense, there are some simple things you can do to improve your earnings.

I’ve been working with Google AdSense for a year or so, and I’ve read a lot of messages and ebooks about improving my AdSense income.

I’ve tried a lot of the ideas offered by the gurus, and have come to the following conclusions. I know they can help you make more money with AdSense.

You earn AdSense revenue by displaying web pages with your AdSense ads embedded in the pages. When your visitors click on the ads, Google pays you for the click.

It helps to develop a set of principles for maximizing your AdSense earnings.

The number one principle is to offer useful value to your visitors. The same principles that will help you earn more with AdSense, will help you improve the experience for your visitors.

For most sites, most visitors will come in thru a search engine, or a link to a specific page. In that sense, each page is a site to the visitor. There should be information on that page that gives the visitor a quick idea what the site is about, and whether it will reward him/her/it as a visitor.

Think like a visitor, not like the web site author. Stop for a moment and mentally put yourself in your visitor’s shoes.

The page visitor is most likely coming from a search engine click. They are looking for specific information, and want to know if this is the page that will answer their questions. Make the page be about one thing, not a lot of different things.

Help them decide quickly, by using a clean, clear layout with the most important information emphasized by titles and bullet points.

Look at the AdSense ads that are appearing on your web pages. Are the things that are advertised in the ads, interesting and useful to your visitors? If not, your page needs more text that will identify the proper context to the AdSense engine.

Where are the Google AdSense ads on your page? Some should appear when the visitor first sees the page, without having to scroll the page down. Many visitors will not linger very long. Even if your page is not exactly what they are looking for, it is better to have them leave through an AdSense ad click, than just hitting the back button on the browser.

Make your ads accessible to the visitor. Ads should be tucked in with the text, not way off on the other site of the page.

It helps to make the text of your page similar to the text of the ads. Using similar fonts and color schemes makes the ads an integral part of the page, not an afterthought.

Google AdSense calculates the value of your page views with a number they call eCPM. This is the amount a thousand page views would be worth, given your click through percentage and the amount your advertisers are paying per click. Dont do this right away however. You must first set up a list of tips, or advice, or articles or reports or SOMETHING to broadcast to your list of subscribers. Something that is free, and something that is beneficial to them (Many online businesses will PROVIDE that list of tips FOR you.)

Once you start broadcasting your newsletters to your list, wait a few weeks (preferably a month), before you start advertising to them.

When it finally comes time to advertise something, here are a few tips:

Keep the sales letter as short as possible, while making it as enticing as possible. (It should be short so it is easy to read, and should have your list PUMPED to buy the product.)

Send a follow-up email promotion to the same list (statistics show that this WILL increase your sales by 50%)

Dont BS. People like (and trust) honesty. Tell youre list straightaway that it will cost money. (But also add how darned much it will benefit them!)

Dont give the impression that if they dont buy your product they will never be successful. Instead, leave them with the impression that they CAN do extremely well without it, but they will do BETTER with it.

The only downside to this type of advertising is that you must have a fair sized list of subscribers in order to even hope to make a sale. (If you have a list of 3000 or more then you are doing fairly well.) Building a list is one of the biggest challenges that many online marketers will face. But the benefits of having one are incredible.

Think of your list as your own personal ATM. All you have to do is send out a simple email and wait for the cash to roll in. And you can do this as often as you like.
